Change Your Movement Patterns and Change your Life

Colleen McCoy

Colleen McCoy was a very active and energetic child, participating in an array of activities like gymnastics, swimming, biking, surfing, dancing, basically anything that made her move. After her daughter’s birth, getting around and doing what seemed easy before became an ordeal and the freedom to be active ceased to exist. Colleen’s life was abruptly replaced with working too much, no sleep, horrible eating habits and no time to exercise. The stresses of living a "full time" lifestyle began to take a toll and making time for her swiftly took priority.

After chatting about her concerns, she was referred by a friend to give Yoga a try.  Soon she realized just doing something for herself at least one hour a day can make the world a much better place. Colleen then started to feel her body transform, joints release, spine lengthen and soon she was able to flush the unwanted stress deep in her body all by herself. She was hooked and craving more education, she decided to become trained through a program called NESTA. Despite her work and school commitments she was determined to spread this amazing gift and show everyone. Colleen realized the immense benefits of this practice and the self- awareness she had been lacking her whole life.

Shortly thereafter, she started “just breathe Yoga” where she taught Yoga and mat Pilates classes in a very small studio near Houston Texas. Colleen remembered from the beginning how essential the breath-work was and how she did not breathe near enough before she tried yoga. In 2006 she explored further into Yoga and completed a Yoga Instructor Teacher Certification through The Yoga Institute of Houston. Two years following, life brought her to the Hill Country where she earned her Ace Personal Trainer Certification and began working at a small fitness facility in Wimberley, Texas.

As a personal trainer, in a gym setting Colleen began to venture into other areas of fitness noticing the bonus of cross-training with Pilates and Yoga. She wanted to see what else Pilates had to offer and started looking around Austin for a specific Pilates program that would suit her not so flexible needs. The search was a success when she had the pleasure to connect with a studio run by Kate Wodash, the owner of “The Mindful Body Center” in Austin Texas.  Kate took Colleen under her wing as an apprentice to learn the many methods of Joseph Pilates. She studied under Kate and completed the program in 11 months with a whole new appreciation for the human body, then received her Pilates Instructor Certification. During that time she worked alongside some of the best Physical Therapist in Austin and gained extended experience thanks to “Star Physical Therapy” in Oak Hill (southwest of Austin).

Most currently Colleen is working at the Mindful Body Center and has quickly added a very new and powerful tool to her fitness arsenal.  Ki-Hara Resistance Stretching is the perfect complement to any physical or lack of physical routine you have going right now. .
